TUE

Inpatient admission rules and guidelines are still in a work in progress. Expected to be standardized by next week and distributed to Residents and Faculty.

From the Office of

Dr. Homer

The C3's feel that there is not enough communication  than in the past between the C3's and Residents:

  • Discharge plans
  • Transfers within and out of the hospital
  • Major changes in patient care

Please make sure to regularly communicate with the C3's on these matters. If a patient ready for discharge in the morning prioritize placing all the necessary orders as soon as possible for discharge. Please avoid placing discharge orders late in the day.

STROKE ORDER SETS

As discussed in our recent Patient Safety Conference

presented by Dr. Bdair, EMR was indentified as one of the improvement measures. It seems this was well known and addressed by the Hospital

"Included in the Joint Commission required action plan, the Stroke order sets were reviewed and revised in the electronic medical record for all types of stroke (i.e. hemorrhagic, ischemic, etc.) congruent with the current clinical practice guidelines. "

Reflect every day, and include the "pillow test."

Reflection is a critically important part of your learning and growth as physicians. You should make it part of your everyday routine. Things to reflect upon include the clinical experiences you had that day, and all aspects of the hidden curriculum you may have observed.  As your head hits the pillow at night, be aware of the "pillow test."  If you find yourself thinking about a decision you may have made about a patient that day, and have difficulty falling asleep, you may want to reassess/rethink the decision the next morning (or in some cases, earlier).
